1. Financial
Assistance for Treatment
CHF provides financial support for children who family cannot afford
to pay for some of the medical equipment such as catheters and pacemakers
which are not provided by the Government. In 1998-2002, CHF provided
in sponsorship for over $1,720,000 for more than 60 children needing
treatment.
2. Sponsorship
for Medical Equipment
CHF will sponsor equipment not otherwise available in Hong Kong which
will benefit children with congenital heart condition. In 1998, CHF
had sponsored $200,000 to purchase a Nitric Oxide delivery system for
the Intensive Care Unit of Grantham hospital to enhance the patient
recovery's time after cardiac surgery.
3. Support
Group
Parents Support Group
CHF had a parent support group which meets regularly in order to provide
a channel for the parent to discuss issues of concern and share their
experience.
Young Volunteer Group
CHF had a youth volunteer group which provide chance for older children
with heart conditions to receive advice and guidance on their conditions
as well as to share their experiences and problems with others with
similar conditions. This group is led by one of the CHF professional
staff.
4. Educational
activities
Children’s Heart Foundation organizes educational talks and seminars
for patients, their families and the public to understand heart diseases
in children.
5. The House
of Heart
In 2000 the Foundation has set up ‘The House of Heart’, a hostel located
in Grantham Hospital for parents whose children are admitted for treatment.
The hostel provides overnight accommodation for 10 persons. It is well
equipped with utilities and is convenient for parents to take care of
their children. Bookings are arranged through the Paediatric Cardiologist
Unit and a nominal charge is made (HK$50)
  
6. Overseas
Experts
Each year the Foundation invites overseas experts to Hong Kong operate
on children with complex heart disease and to share their experience
with local medical staff.
7. Research
Children’s Heart Foundation supports research activities on paediatric
cardiology. In 2000 it granted sponsorship to the University of Hong
Kong to study cardiopulmonary function of normal children.
8. Hospital
visits
The Parent Support Group and Youth Volunteer Group visit the Paediatric
Ward at Grantham Hospital regularly. The visits give patients and their
parents with support and care.
9. Recreational
activities
The Foundation organizes recreational programs such as outings, camping
and visits for members. The activities provide opportunities for the
patients and their families to share their experience.
 
10. Other Services
Children’s Heart Foundation provides counseling, enquiry and referral
services to parents and patients.
